The Calabar High School campus received a majestic upgrade this summer, thanks to a powerful gesture of Old Boys pride and unity. The Calabar Alumni Association of New York (CAANY) proudly announces the completion of the lion monument installation at the front of the school, along the Donald Phillibert Boulevard.
This symbolic enhancement was made possible through generous donations from Calabar Alumni Association of New York members, along with COBA Atlanta, led by President Dr. Anderson, and distinguished alumnus Corville Stoddart, Class of 1974. These contributions funded the construction of the base and the mounting of the iconic lion statues—previously donated by Dr. Donald Phillibert, immediate past president of CAANY.
The Dennis Sherwood Scholarship supported more than 30 students at Calabar High School during the 2025–2026 academic year, providing essential items such as uniforms and textbooks. Recipients ranged from first form to upper sixth, reflecting the scholarship’s broad impact across grade levels.
This initiative honors the legacy of Dennis Sherwood, former vice president of the Calabar Alumni Association of New York. A dedicated and steadfast Old Boy, Mr. Sherwood consistently demonstrated his commitment to the school and its mission, answering the call to serve with quiet resolve and enduring pride.
